Ok so I've tried everything here and it's really ticking me off. The Sims 2 will not run on my computer. It also has issues installing disc three, mainly the file control2.dat Even if I get it past the installing it still won't work. I'll load the game untill the EA logo then it says "The application has crashed. The application will now terminate". So then after researching online everything told me to patch it. Buuut the patch gets an error on a completely fine installation. I've tried installing and reinstalling like 10 times. It worked when I installed on my brothers pc (so its not the CD). My computer is bran spanking new running xp and meets allll of the system requirements. I had it running on it when my operating system was vista. I have directx 9c as well. I even tried deleting group.cache. This is so frustrating please help. Now I can hardly get it to install.

  1. You should scan your computer for spyware, that MIGHT be the cause.

  2. Use vista as an os again u said it ran with vista but now u use xp,  switch back and use vista.

  3. Well samantha your computer is either as piece of junk. Or you have c**p on there cause you dont know how to run one.

  4. you could try copying the entire disk to your computer first, and then installing

I'm sure you've already checked to make sure that the disks are clean and not scratched.  The only time I've ever seen the "application has crashed" error is when I had some incompatible custom content, but if you haven't even installed yet, that couldn't be your problem.  The patches will be necessary, but you'll need to apply them after you get the game installed.  Good luck!
