i don't have cable. i just have regular tv. 4,5,9,19,29,38,41,50,and 62. and i want to record shows but i hate using a VCR cause the quality isn't that great and i hate how slow it is to fast forward commercials and stuff. is there any device that can record your shows just like a DVR or TIVO but for regular TV? please let me know.

  1. A Tivo works just fine with regular TV (antenna). During setup it will ask you how you receive your channels, you choose Antenna and it does a scan of available channels.

I have two Tivo's doing the exact thing right now - recording TV without cable TV service. Other than a reduced amount of channels for viewing, it has all the cool features and functionality as any other Tivo.

  2. Hi akteoxis,

You can record regular TV onto TiVo. When you set up your TiVo you tell it how you get your TV. It will then know what channels you get.

If you just want to record by time and channel then I would recommend a non TiVo DVR. TiVo has a monthly subscription fee and will not work if you don't subscribe.

For a no subscription DVR I recommend the Philips. There is no monthly fee. You set it to record by time and channel like an old VHS. It has a built in DVD recorder and you can transfer shows to DVDs if you want.

WalMart sells them. There are lots of others available but this is my favorite. Go here and be sure to scroll down to see all the features and information - http://www.walmart.com/catalog/product.d...

I hope that helps you make the best decision.

  3. With the new TivoHD and an HDTV you can also record your local High Definition over the air broadcast channels.
