We have about 15 of these in our garage (NY state). They are about the size of a half dollar, black ,....they look like spiders and can jump at least three feet. One jumped from the floor to my shirt (I screamed bloody murder). I have NO IDEA what they are....??? they are NOT grasshoppers

Also, if you go to this site, you can upload a picture of the bug and someone can identify it for you:

  6. i have no clue, but i can tell you that they arent trapdoor spiders. they dont live in newyork and they dont jump that far

  7. Sound like huge fleas.

    Kill them!!!

  8. Sounds like what you have is a male trapdoor spider, they are widespread throughout the USA and are harmless, they are rarely seen because they burrow underground and make a "trapdoor" to ambush prey, most likely the reason you are seeing them now is because they are in search of mates and it is the only time that they will leave their "trapdoor" burrows.

They can leap 40 + times their body length .
