Can't import video file into Windows Movie Maker?

Question

Every time I try to import a video file that I recorded with my Sony Handycam camcorder into Windows Movie Maker, I get an error "...could not be imported. An interface has too manymethods to fire events from."

I have no idea what causes this, and the file to be imported seems to be an .mpg file. Can someone help?

Which Sony HandyCam? ALL Sony consumer camcorders are "HandyCam".

MiniDV or digital8 tape needs firewire for MovieMaker to Capture" the video. USB will not work.

Flash memory or hard drive needs USB and copies the files - no import or Capture.

DVD camcorders need your computer to have a drawer loading DVD drive because you take the disc out of the camcorder, put it in the computer's drawer loading (not slot loading) DVD drive and rip the video using HandBrake.

I had the same problem until i solved it. First you need to download digital media converter 2.7 search it on google. It is free. Then you need to start the program and select your video to convert and convert it to .avi. Avi is a format that is accepted by windows movie maker. Oh yeah and after you convert it it will ask where the selected video will go. save it where you want.

.mpg is not a media format, it's a container format. That means it acts like a box, with the video and audio streams sitting inside. The video and audio streams are what's incompatible with WMM.

You can convert your video with the video converter below, and choose another encoder,  which is compatible with wmm.
