  1. Try right clicking the cells, go down to Format Cells, click on the "Protection" tab, and make sure "Locked" is unchecked.

That's the only thing that comes to mind, other than it possibly being a read only document.

  2. sounds like those cells are locked.. there is a section, in the help file, that will help you figure which cells to unlock so you can enter data..

  3. i am guessing you are using Windows XP?

you have excel to "browse in same window" as your internet explore.

    just change it

or heres the click by click

    - right click on your Start button  (usually at bottom left)

    - click Explore (usually the 1st option)

    - click Tools (top menu)

    - click Folder Options (usually the last item)

    - click File Types (this is a tab)

    - scroll way down to XLS (look under "extensions")

    - click on XLS

    - click Advanced

    - UNCHECK Browse in same window

    - click OK and OK

then go to the website and open the excel file again.  it should open as a small window in your regular excel.  and everything should be normal. and you should see the Tools options to be able to unprotect the cells.

you might want to change XLSX too while you are at it, its going to be an issue again for Excel 2007 files.

feel free to update and let me know if something about your WinXP is different.
