Can't install Yahoo Music Install Incomplete?

Had error message "Error upgrading YMJ. The upgrade package was not signed" with Vista. Per advice on Yahoo answers, uninstalled YMJ from new Dell PC and then downloaded YMJ from Yahoo website. Downloaded to desktop and ran program. It stopped, saying installation was incomplete. I closed open programs, restarted and tried to install no luck. I connect to internet with wireless adapter on USB port. How can I download this and install without having problems with Vista?

  1. Based upon your description and the error message, it sounds like you have UAC turned off.  If so, look at the following article that tells you how to turn off UAC, however, do the opposite and turn it back on:

This will allow UAC to prompt you and continue with the install.  Another possibility would be to save the YMJ installer to the desktop (instead of Run) and then run as administrator.

    Here's some background:

If you have another logon account that is setup with standard privilileges (instead of administative), I would try installing under that account.  The reason is to force UAC to pump out a message that would allow the installer to run (signed or not signed).  Otherwise, I have to regretfully point you to Yahoo! to resolve the issue:

If you get a resolution, please let me know by adding details to your question.  Curiosity killed the cat!  Thanks.

I don't think that the Msconfig startup option is creating a problem.  I believe that it is there for protection against starting up an unknown program that could be malware.  That is why you still see the creative volume control.  However, McAfee could be creating a problem.  I quickly perused some articles about McAfee creating havoc with Windows Vista but all of that seems to be around the June, July timeframe and I would hope that the issues would have been resolved by now.  I would suggest looking at the McAfee options and see if you can turn off all McAfee security protection with the exception of the anti-virus.  I would still like you to try the install under a different account (create one if you don't have one) with standard priviliges instead of administrator).  A potential problem I forsee is that Yahoo! might blame McAfee and McAfee might blame Yahoo! and you will be caught in the middle.  I have seen situations like this happen before and many people in frustration install a different protection suite that works without ever resolving the problem.
