why are people all of a sudden bashing Cubs fans? talking about how they are too excited.

I am sure they know better than any one else what it is like to be let down. so why can't people just let them be.

As a phillies fan i can't necessarily say I am rooting for the Cubs because along with the mets they are contenders for the pennant but can't people just lay off cubs fans backs. whatever happens happens. so quit saying they are gonna choke and stuff.

  1. i agree, people are going overboard.. i'm not a cubs fan either but i mean they're a good team! Lay off haters!

  2. I've been a Cubs fan for more than 40 years.  I cried in '69, '85 and 2003 ( where I had a backrow seat for game 7 against Florida ).  Insulting the Cubs won't ever stop me from avidly rooting for the Cubs.  In fact, it probably makes me root even more.

  3. Well, some Cubs fans are a little over the top and it can be a bit much to take at times. Like the kid who just picked Ron Santo as the greatest 3rd baseman of all time in another question...have you ever heard of Michael Jack Schmidt, son?..

But for the majority of Cubs fans this has to be exciting. 100 is a nice round number and it just seems like this is going to Chicago's year - they could have a Cubs/White Sox World Series and Obama presidential victories to celebrate just a few days apart...of course Phoenix has the same opportunity with McCain and the Dbacks, but a little longer odds.

  4. A. We have always been the most hated on fan base.

B, The Cubs are the most notorious team in baseball for several reasons, thus will attract a lot of attention.

    C. F em'! The Cubs are d**n good this year. So they are simply acting out on their own jealousy!

  5. " I think most of the hostility on here comes from White Sox fans (the most classless group of fans in sports) and Brewers fans (most just enjoy the rivalry, but there are a few here as well that are classless). Cardinals fans give us a hard time too, but they seem to have a little bit more respect for the Cubs because of our great rivalry."

This is exactly why people bash Cubs fans. It's because they have nothing good to talk about so they bash other teams and their fans.

  6. Killzone and Gene H are part of the problem.  Ignore what they posted.  THey just hate the Cubs and their fans because  they were raised to be Cub haters for no good reason.

Not knowing baseball?  Give me a d**n break. THis comes from fans of a team that don't play pure baseball (DH anyone?)

I never used to root against the Sux until '03 when thier fans were all over the Chicago news wearing MArlins jerseys.  You NEVER see Cubs fans buying Twins jerseys to show how much they hate the Sux.

ANd last year there was a bar on the southside that posted the Cubs' "elimination number" proudly outside their bar.  Name me ONE Cubs bar that did the same thing.  You can't because Cub fans have no time to pay attention to the Sux.

  7. YEs I agree Cubs fans have a right to be excited their team will probably make the playoffs and meet the PHillies in the NL championship series. It's like last year when people did this to Phillies fans. BTW Good comback last night Cubbies it was a tough loss but that wind really played a factor in the eighth inning and cubbies fans gotta agree. GO PHILLIES!

  8. I would love to see the cubbies come through!

    My tigers are toast!

The white sox did it the red sox did it.

    Lets go cubs!

  9. I empathize with Cub fans. It has been 100 years and they have a lot to be excited about. As a Met fan I can attest that after last years collapse I certainly know what it feels like to lose out. This year it lookks like it will be neck and neck with the Phils again. Good luck!

  10. Yea ik thank you verymuch for doing this it has been stupid of people harrasing cubs fan cuz there jealous

  11. Speaking as a life long, die hard Cubs fan, while I don't like to see my fellow fans bashed, I will admit that, unfortunately, a lot of it is well deserved. There are way too many Cubs who are assuming that the Cubs have already clinched a World Series win. And a good number of these so called 'fans" really have very little sense of the game itself. While it pains me to admit it, a pretty good percentage of these fans have no idea of the history of the team, have a lack of understanding of even the simplest rules and definitions, and attend games at Wrigley simply because the games have become an "event" at which being seen is somehow a reflection of your social standing.

So while I find it disheartening that anyone would try to belittle me (I like to think I am at least somewhat knowledgeable about the game, and I certainly can put together a better argument then "Cubs rule! This is the year baby!") I can actually see where some of the hate or at least extreme dislike, comes from. It's sad that some folks feel a need to bash another team's fans as a whole, but there are fans of every team, including mine, that fit the descriptions noted above.

  12. People having been bashing the Cubs & Cubs fans for a long time. I know because I'm a 38 year old Cub fan & I;ve gotten grief my whole life. It's just NOW the Cubs are in the spot light because they are winning & not because they are lovable losers. It's not going to stop until they finally win the World Series & I BELIEVE this is the mother of all next years - Eamus Catuli

  13. Thank you Feenafee. This is why I say you are one of the most liable to get a BA from me.

But hey, When you are the best there will always be haters and people just cant seem to understand that. All I have to say to White Sox fans is this: STOP CRITICIZING US AND WATCH OUT FOR THE TWINS!!!

  14. All of the sudden? Oh, well, I am from Illinois, so here it has been a LONG time standard. So many "Cubbies" fans are ignorant about baseball. They know only Cub things and usually don't get a lot of that right. (They say things like, "C'mon, Alphonso. Score a point." Or, "He really pitched that ball into the infield!") Watching games in the bleachers is difficult because few there are concentrating on the game. They are either on their cell phones or talking about business or getting drunk. They can't really even appreciate their own players because they can not compare them to anyone because they only follow what the Cubs do (and, again, not usually all that well, either). In the 1950s and 60s when I was growing up, certain attitudes were expressed more than they are now. Overtly, the Cubs were the "white" team because the White Sox played on the south (or "dark") side. That really hasn't changed much. They just don't say it out loud much, that's all.

All that being said, baseball is the only sport in which a terrible, horrible franchise can be exalted the way the Cubs are. I've never understood why a team with such horrible ownership can get the fans the way the Cubs do. When Michael Jordan was with the Bulls everyone in America was a Bulls fan. Not now. The Dallas Cowboys used to be "America's team", but not so much anymore. But really good teams, oh, like the White Sox, for instance, with a World Series win and such, scarcely are noticed. The Cub players aren't what I dislike. Ron Santo should be in the Hall of Fame and Ernie Banks and a lot of other Cubs were outstanding. But the fans!! Here on Y/A they are mean-spirited, just like they are in Chicago, and, with exceptions, just about as ignorant. I'm not talking about the non-racist, knowledgeable few. I even know some good Cub fans. But, believe me, such people are in a very tiny minority.

So, sometimes I bash them. I always skip 3 Cub related questions before I answer one. I try to restrain myself.

  15. Of Course! They deserve a championship. They have been starving for one since the last time they won in 1908 100 years ago. It's like give them a break will ya? They need a championship badly. Just like us Philly fans.

  16. Haha it is because of OBAMA peoples! Lol jk.

Honestly whenever a team has a good season the frontrunner talk comes to that teams' fans. I know we have alot of great cubs fans on here like roadkill, that guy, cubsbearsbulls, etc

If they do "choke" that is what was meant to be. By calling the fans frontrunners you are just making them more of fans when they defend themselves.

  17. Thank you, it's about time someone other then a Cubs fan steps up to say something.  Too many people don't give credit where credit is due.  Also a lot of people on here put words in our mouth.  They say that we've already crowned ourselves World Series Champs.  We're the last team that would crown ourselves before the season is over.  We've had our hearts broken too many times before to get ahead of ourselves.  I think most of the hostility on here comes from White Sox fans (the most classless group of fans in sports) and Brewers fans (most just enjoy the rivalry, but there are a few here as well that are classless).  Cardinals fans give us a hard time too, but they seem to have a little bit more respect for the Cubs because of our great rivalry.

  18. I think it's great that the Cubs are having a good season.  I think the Cubs fans have every right to be excited and happy about the team.  As a Yankee fan, I grew up in South Jersey so I have a great fondness for the Phillies.  If the Phillies win, great.  If not, I'd like to see the Cubs get to the big show.
