Hi. I just got a wireless router and bought a USB dongle for my laptop. I tried setting it all up but I'm having no luck. I installed the router ok and all the lights are on. I installed the software for the dongle and that went on the system ok but when I plug in the dongle, the light on it is flashing but the computer keeps saying that it isn't on. I can't find anything to turn it on but I thought that it would be on if it is flashing? Can anyone help me please?

  1. ..Use ZDWLan Utility to connect..

  2. Thats weird cuz normally laptops can automatically detect routers. First off how far from your router ids your computer. Secondly are there any walls between the two. cuz many times there a metal studs in the wall that interfere the connection. If both of those are okay then its not a problem with the usb dongly its the router. call the company that provides the router;. I'm sure they'll be able to help

  3. a) ensure that your wireless router is broadcasting your SSID

    b) ensure that your wireless router is not using encryption

    c) set an IP address for your wireless router

    d) place the wireless dongle/laptop next to your wirelss router to ensure that it would most likely be receiving a signal

    e) setup a static IP address for your wirless dongle/laptop so that it is on the same nework as your wireless router

    e.g. wireless router IP - 192.168.0.1

    subnet 255.255.255.0

    wireless dongle/laptop IP - 192.168.0.2

    subnet 255.255.255.0

to setup your wireless router, connect one end of an ethernet cable (crossover cable) into your laptop, and the other into a LAN port on your wireless router.

Access your wireless routers setup page by opening internet explorer on your laptop and typing in 192.168.0.1 (the usual default management IP for most routers) and it should bring up a management page to setup the router - to enable SSID broadcasting, enable/disable encryption etc
