Can't sleep with cats making so much noise!

I have two cats and for some reason as soon as I turn off the lights to go to sleep they go nuts. They usually just fight. Also, one of them likes to meow for no reason at the walls. The other is really curious and athletic and likes to jump around and knock over stuff. If I kick them out of the room they will claw at the carpet outside my door and tear it up or meow all night. I was thinking of putting them in the bathroom downstairs because I wouldn't hear them, but I don't know how well that would go if they were both locked in there together. I could also put them in the garage, but it may be hot and I'm afraid the athletic one will find a way out or get himself trapped somewhere in some vent or eat something that will make him sick. I'm doing my best to keep them awake during the day so they sleep at night. Also I was thinking catnip would help them since I heard it has a "crash" affect that will make them sleep after a while.

Oh this stuff doesn't happen every night, but when it does, work the next day sux!

  1. Make sure they aren't sleeping when you get home from work and play with them.

  2. Cats sleep all day, are nocturnal, and expect you to be/do the same. I have thought about locking mine in the bathroom when they act that way. I think one night in there would cure them, But I just yell at them. They run out of my bedroom, then sneak back in about 1/2 hour later.

  3. Have a very energetic playtime and snack right before the lights go off. Then you can put them in a crate with a comfortable bed, a couple toys and maybe some cat nip and it should relax them and put them right to sleep

  4. THROW THEM OUTSIDE! THEY WOULD BE SO MUCH HAPPIER AND THAT'S PROB WHAT THEY WANT ANYWAY~ MY CATS MOSTLY STAY IN AT NIGHT BUT IF THEY WANT TO STAY OUTSIDE THEN DONT COME BACK UNTIL MORNING, I HAVE TRAINED THEM TO DO SO~

  5. Your cats are probably bored because they don't get enough attention. Buy them a small playplace and put it in the livingroom. Only take it out at night.

My cats use to do the same thing, once i bought the playplace, they stopped for the whole night. Sometimes I even found them sleeping in it in the morning.

  6. Ugh, they're such a waste of time and energy.  Just donate them to a good home and rid yourself of the burden!

  7. This is fairly normal behavior for most cats.  Cats are nocturnal and enjoy kicking up their heels while we are trying to catch some ZZZZs.  You can have an energetic playtime with them before bed followed by a nice snack.  This might encourage them to hit the sack a bit earlier.

    Good luck and happy sleeping!

  8. Honestly I think that maybe they need some new toys and cat nip, maybe they are bored. My cat does not care for cat nip at all but I find that new toys intrigue her and keep her out of trouble.
