Question:

Can't transfer video File from SD HC Card?

I have a video clip on an SD HC card, it's 0.99gb, and I can't seem to get it to copy and paste onto my hard-drive.

I'd like to know what's a simple trick, or, method for transferring this from my SD card to my hard-drive?

I had other smaller video files that transferred with no problem from the same card using 'windows scanner and camera wizard', and yes, I did try using an external card reader as well when the card reader built into the computer didn't work. Using a usb cable hooked directly from the camera to the computer doesn't work either.

The video file hasn't been corrupted because I can watch it through the camera from begginning to end.

My operating system is XP Pro with Sp2, AMD Athlon Dual Core 2.2ghz, 2gb Ram, 250gb hard-drive. The Camera is a Canon SD870 IS. The SD HC card is 4gb and is made Kingston.

Thanks for any help, much appreciated. :)

  1. The wizard (which I have used once and never again)--transferred, as I recall, JPG files only.

You can "copy" the original file and "paste" it onto the hard drive.

Or the good old days, we did it the DOS way, like:

    e:

    cd

    cd\canoneos

    c:

    md\mefiles

    xcopy e:*.* /v

    something like that..

  2. We have several Canon cameras here at home and usually use the Scanner and Camera Wizard to upload all jpeg  images and avi. movies either directly through the camera or via a card reader. And we have never ever had one single problem. The process for us has always worked perfectly.

If you've tried several methods with no success, then I would suggest that you maybe try the software that came with your camera. It might work.

Also, in regards to your card reader...make sure it's compatible with SDHC cards, because (I think) not all standard SD card readers can read SDHC cards.
