Question:

Can 6 subwoofers be connected to mono amp with 4 ohm load?

I have 6 butt shakers that are 4 ohms, 50 watts RMS. I bought a plate amp rated at 300 wats RMS at 4 ohms. 4ohm is the minimum on the amp. According to my calculations I could wire them series/parallel and that would result in 6ohm load. Is it possible to wire them to get a 4 ohm load?

  1. Wiring the shakers to produce 6 or 8 ohms is safer because it is farther away from zero ohms.  So doing a 6 ohm wire job is perfect.

    EDIT:

Yes - that article is correct on how to wire things.

Pick a movie with a lot of bass like the lobby shoot out scene in the original "Matrix" or the pod-race scene in StarWars and adjust the intensity on the plate amp.  If you are not careful - it will feel like someone is bounding nails into the chair. Turn down the intensity so that you get a smooth vibration.

And have fun. Those tactical transducers are great.

  2. You are trying to thread a needle with a rope here.  You are trying to do something that is more complicated than it is worth.  From my experience with experimenting with audio and video gear for the past 25+ years, you should just sell the butt shakers on eBay and get you a pair of 12" passive subs.  Two 8-Ohm subs should bridge into 4 Ohms nicely.  Or sell the amp too, and get a nice 12" or 15" powered sub.

  3. No you can't, you will blow the amp,and those "buttshakers" are not very good for what you want to do, you need to find better subs to do what you want.
