  1. I know a kid in Iowa who played Boy Scout meetings; schools; birthday parties; etc. and became locally famous. He can get paid a little for those appearances. Help him (if he needs help -- if he is good on the puter he might be able to do it himself) design a flyer to send out to schools and churches and scout troops etc. and get some business card stationery at Staples to print out business cards to hand out and put on bulletin boards.

See if he can get in the lineup for a local festival that needs entertainers. Take pictures and send it in to the Plain Dealer or to a smaller entertainment weekly/free paper if Cleveland has one. Put up a website and YouTube videos.

The out of town gigs -- no they won`t pay his gas or bus or train fare or whatever. But if they pay well it will cover. See if some coffee houses have open mic night -- I live in a small town in Iowa and our coffee houses do.

I think if he builds up some birthday party and scout/Campfire USA/church youth group/ etc. gigs he can earn a tidy sum for a teenager. Heck it can be his work by the time he is 16 instead of hefting groceries or saying ``would you like fries with that?``

He can build his reputation around Cleveland and start getting some interest farther east when he is older and can put some of his birthday party gig money toward train fare to points farther east on the weekends and in the summer -- when he is more like 17. ;-)

Comedians and other performers often struggle for a while before they hit the big time.

He can further increase his fame by trying out for community theatre comedies and learn even more about timing etc. and make contacts in the biz.

Best of luck and I hope to see him ripping up the stage someday in New York.

  2. I'll answer you the same way I answered him a week ago.  Stand up comedy is one of the most difficult gigs in the entertainment industry.  There are comics who tour for 10-15 years and only break even.

No, no one will pay you to travel there.  Go to an open mic and see if they'll even let him on the stage.  Standing alone in front of a bunch of drunks at 12:30 AM is a lot different than cracking jokes at the dinner table.

It seems like you just want to skip all the "hard work" part of making it in stand- up and you just want people to hand you money.  Is it all about the money?  It should be about the love of performing and the joy of making others laugh.  Learn to crawl before you run.

  3. Why I cannot send money for support or be there if that what you mea, I can give some words of advice.

You can never fail if you attempt to achieve your dream.

I say go for it, even if it takes many times to get the crowed.

And if you ever make it to Indianapolis or Anderson Indiana, I will go and deff see the show.

  4. Very Uncommon!!!! Give it a go!!!!! Beat the odds!!!!

  5. No one ensures you success (only scammers!). First, make yourself clear if you want a JOB or an ACTIVITY for your child that will make him happy. If want him to be "famous" or being professional and then make money, you should differentiate that being notorious is not necesary being talented, or, even worse, will make you/him compromise many ethical things that you might not like to do or act what he doesnt really like.  Make what will nurture him. Best of luck
