Question:

Can ACCUTANE or RITALIN set off a false positive drug test?

I don't do any illegal drugs, however I do have legal prescriptions for accutane and ritalin.

My concern with the accutane is that I'm 3 months into the program, and it's a hepatic drug, meaning it has the high potential for liver damage. I've been reading that liver diseases and liver damage can potentially produce a positive cocaine or THC test. Has anyone ever heard of such a situation?

I'm less worried about the ritalin because i dont think ritalin is an amphetamine, but is there anyway it could produce a false positive too for something?

Obviously I'm going to report both my prescriptions to the lab tech, but these thoughts are still bugging me and my drug test is very soon. I've been accepted at a hospital for an advanced healthcare position pending this drug test and I dont want anything to go wrong!!!!

  1. possibly =-discuss this with your doctor.

  2. There is no way liver damage cuases a non-specific positive test for cocaine or THC. The cocaine test is very accurate. Ritalin is an amphetamine and will test postive in a drug test. Most good drug labs will do a second test to identify which amphetamine is in your urine, as long as it is Ritalin and you have a prescription for Ritalin you will be fine.
