My brother had a cell phone with cellular one but AT&T took them over. He couldn't pay his bill so they disconnected him when he owed $200. Two months later they are charging him $400 and if he doesn't pay it they are charging him $700. Is it legal to charge this much when he isn't recievieng services?

  1. What does his contract say?  He's liable for the original amount plus interest and, probably, fees.  They'd gladly provide service if his account was current.  They do have a right to charge interest and fees without restoring his account.

  2. Personally I would forget about the d**n bill.  Wait seven years and it is off your credit record.  Don't acknowledge the bill, do not ever send them any money.

d**n AT&T, just forget it, live without a cell phone, you obviously cannot afford it.

  3. Read the contract, a few of the early termination charges are currently under court  review, however if your brother go this phone fully loaded with tunes, movies and web, he probably forgot to cancel prior to the cut-off date, Hence he was charged for all his playing with the new phone.

Ord's advice was great except for the fact At&T keeps it on your record, but then they sell the debt to a collection agency for another 7 years of bad reports.

As long as the contract is in effect,AT&T can and will charge monthly fees.
