Can Alltel customers switch to a Verizon plan?

Since Verizon Wireless has bought Alltel, when the merge happens-

Can costumers cancel their contract with Alltel and switch to a Verizon plan without being charged?

Or will the Alltel peeps have to wait until their contract is up, and then switch.

Once the merger is finalized (They are shooting for Dec) you will be able to upgrade your phone, and switch to a Verizon rate plan.  You can do this regardless of when your contract with Alltell is up.
