Maybe now the Russians can pay the Americans back for helping alqida murder their troops when Russians was invading their country. they lost well over 38,000 troops and had 10,500 men with missing limbs before they pulled out, i think Russia will now get involved with the terrorist, now watch the body count go up.

  1. We didn't seem to learn anything from Viet Nam so why would any learning take place from this conflict?

  2. Umm the people of Afghanistan were armed by the USA in the Soviet Invasion (Not Russian).  In that case the USSR invaded Afghanistan cause they wanted to, not because they harbored terrorists that flew planes into buildings.

Its amazing how people seem to forget the reasons behind the current USA conflicts and like to make their own false truths about the wars.  If Russia were to aid the insurgents in Afghanistan it would mean they would be next on the hit list.  Remember the USA's policy after 9/11 you are either with us in the War on Terror or you are against us.  There is no middle ground.  Russia is with us in the war as they have faced their fair share of terrorist attacks such as with Checyna.

No nation deserves to live with the pretense if fear that a person with a bomb strapped to their chest is going to run into a crowed market and blow themselves up just because they don't like a group.  Although if you really want to look at it, the US arming of Afghanistan soldiers during the Soviet invasion was payback for the Soviet's helping the the USA opposing forces in Korea and Vietnam.

  3. At a tactical level we are applying a much different approach to the combat in Afghanistan than the Russians did.

  4. Greatest Russian mistake was entering that war. Not the tactical level fail, but diplomatic one. Saudi were friendly toward USSR before these events. Oil price was high, Europe and US were screwed, crisis of 70th and stagnation stuff ... and Soviet economy thriving meanwhile. Oil was not a sole backbone, however it was an export good number 1 for USSR.

When soviet forces entered Afghanistan, Saudis have changed their mind and aligned with west. And so they've increased oil quota, prices have dropped and Soviets were on their way to Perestroyka and collapse of USSR. Regardless of wining/losing actual war in Afghanistan.

  5. How can the USA learn from the Russian Mistakes when we're so busy compounding our own?  There was an article in today's paper that stated that Al Queda is stronger than ever and that the U.S. declaration of Victory in Afghanistan was premature just as it was in Iraq.   U.S. casualties are rising in Afghanistan and more troops are being shipped over there.  Meanwhile, here at home the illegal immigrants have their lobbyists up and running and are positioning themselves for total takeover of the USA.  Obama and McCain are both playing into their hands by refusing to uphold the laws.  Our brave young men and women are fighting in Iraq and Afghanistan while our government is busy giving our country away to the illegal immigrants and their supporters.  Our kids are dying for a corrupt government that is willing to allow terrorists, drug dealers, identity thieves and other lawbreakers free access to U.S. soil.  Meanwhile the government is sending our best businesses overseas and allowing foreign corporations and governments to buy our businesses and own our infrastructures.  Illegals get sanctuary which means that they are given preferential treatment and free reign to take us over from within.  There is very little enforcement of our borders and our laws.  The biggest slap in the face to the USA and that made us a laughing stock to the whole world was when the son of an illegal immigrant was given a gold medal in wrestling!  That reinforced to the whole world that the USA isn't a nation of laws but a nation of lawlessness promoted and condoned by the U.S. Government.  Talk about lost face!
