  1. Naturalized Cuban Americans are not allowed travel to Cuba. Americans are allowed travel to Cuba and return to the USA.

  2. From what I understand, technically Americans cannot travel to Cuba.

Since the US has a trade embargo on Cuba, for an American citizen to visit Cuba (and thus contribute to the Cuban economy) it would be tantamount to treason and punishable doby some very hefty fines and potential jail time.

As far as I know, there are no (or very few) flights that travel from American ports-of-call to Cuba.  However, Americans can travel to Cuba via third-party countries like Mexico and Canada.

I'm a university student in Canada, and each year thousands of us choose Cuba as our preferred Reading Week destination.  It's cheap, warm (February is the coldest month in Canada), and we know it's the one place in the world where we won't be mistaken for Americans!

  3. US citizens can only travel to Cuba with a OFAC license.

There are several limitations , no licences are given for tourist purposes. Cuban Americans ( CA ) can not travel to Cuba without a Cuban permission, if they still have a Cuban passport or have the Cuban nationality.

see  http://www.treas.gov  Several US citizens travel illegal to Cuba via Toronto(Canada) or Cancun (Mexico). Cuban immigration services do not stamp the passport, only the tourist visa. If you go illegal it's a risk , don't bring in Cuban souvenirs, cigars, rum etc. For an illegal visit you can get a fine up to 10 mil dollars and 10 years prison.

For Cultural reasons, study work you can get a license.

Though, all the american's I know that go, you travel from Canada.

My other friend is a travel agent based out of Toronto Canada, and he books trips for americans, living in TO at the time, to go to cuba for vacation.

I have been to cuba several times. They don't stamp your passport.
