Can Americans win LPGA bragging rights over Asian foes?
American LPGA (Ladies Professional Golf Association) lineup appears to be mending its ways, as some of the past star performers once again rose to the occasion during 2012 and capped off the
season in winning style.
Turning to their past champions seems to be the only way to elevate Americans’ national pride across the globe. However, the entire lineup has caught enough flak and been criticised for lacklustre
play during the first half of 2012 season.
With the 2013 season set to kick off in the next few weeks, American lineup is widely expected to count on stars like Stacy Lewis, Paula Creamer, Cristie Kerr and Lexi Thompson.
But the key question remains: will these players be able to win LPGA bragging rights over their strong Asian foes?
Watching Lewis and Cristie Kerr exhibit a strong performance in some of the tournaments might have intimidated Asians, but things could get tricky again if these top two Americans lose their
momentum.
Other players whom fans can count on are Paula Creamer and Lexi Thompson.
Lewis appears to be going in the right direction and she can keep herself and her country in the headlines in the next season. Having finished off the season with the Player of the Year award
on her rack, Lewis has become the strongest player in the United States.
Lewis grabbed four titles in the season. But what made her the “Best Player of the Year” was sixteen top-ten finishes and an eye-popping $1,872,409 prize money.
Amid the criticism for being too soft on Asian rivals, American lineup saw another player rise to the occasion. Cristie Kerr, one of the veterans on the Tour, stunned her fans and rivals after
she ended her winning drought at the 2012 Lorena Ochoa Invitational.
Paula Creamer, who has been winless since her last triumph at the 2010 US Women’s Open, has give a glimmer of hope to the American golf fans. She performed well in some of the tournaments,
recording a total of seven top-10 finishes.
Creamer’s strongest finish was recorded at the 2012 Kingsmill Championship where she battled South Korean Jiyai Shin for the title, but lost in playoff.
