why ALL of our TV stations will switch from analog to digital by February of 2009?

People WILL have to buy this converter box if they still have an older model TV with an antenna attached.

We are not given a choice in this matter but what I would like to know is WHY they feel it is necessary to do this switch in the first place?

What happen to my right to choose?

  1. Oh, you're so terribly confused!

You still have a right to choose!

I hope you'll join with me and millions of other American's and refuse to watch TV after the switch. There's nothing on TV that I can't see on the 'net; nothing worth watching anyway.

  2. Digital TV has many advantages over analog. It allows more channels to be received, better picture quality, ineractive services and true widescreen picture.

If you have a tv which is not digital ready, yes you will have to buy a small adaptor. This simply plugs into the scart socket just as a dvd player or set top box would. Even much older tv's can us an RF modulator to receive digital.

Its Technological progress, and part of what makes humans special. Embrace it!

  3. The TV stations didn't decide, the elected officials in Congress did.  Congress put this in motion back in the 1990s and Congress set the date for the transition.  Up to this point, every full power TV station has already been forced to spend millions of dollars to convert to digital - just so they could stay in business.  It is just now getting to the point that consumers must make a change.

So, the consumers' right to choose came in the voting booth.

That said, digital is a better system.  It is replacing 1930s technology and will keep the US on par with the rest of the world, which is also transitioning to digital TV.

I hope this helps.  Please return and select a Best Answer from all of those submitted.
