Hello. I just got a 10 month old puppy last weekend and he has settled in nicely. He plays with my children, he has learned several commands, etc. however, he is being defiante and goes p**p in the house. We take him out CONSTANTLY!, every 1/2 hour, he goes pee outside, but doesn't want to poo. He has poo'd on my sons floor, my bedroom floor and my bed (twice) I have had it!!! I have tried tieing him up outside, rubbing his nose in it, spraying stuff on my bed, putting up a baby gate, etc. Just this a.m. he was in my room (after going outside first thing in the a.m. for his morning potty) for only 4-5 minutes and in that little amount of time he poo'd on the floor. Does anyone have any ideas? I appreciate it, oh, by the way it's a Pug dog if it matters. Thanks!

  1. I saw the same show Life Happens saw about the lead but I have more of a first hand experience with the lead.My daughters Minpin refused to go outside and she tied a rope to his collar and the other to her belt loop. She had him trained in about four days of being consistent with the lead.

    Good luck..it works.

  2. Since he is being so defiant about it I sure hope you will be able to break him of the habit. Some animals are just messy or should I say have nasty habits. A friend of mine had the same problem with a dog she had gotten that was a year or two old and was never able to break the guy of the habit and was forced to keep him outside unless he was wearing diapers. She tried everything from a to z and nothing worked for very long. He would do alright for a few days then go right back to pooping. Hopefully your little guy will learn soon. When I trained my dogs to potty outside I waited out there with them until they went and then let them in and would make a big deal about them going outside like they were just the most special little pup in the world. But then again they were really small so it was easier and they had never had the chance to potty inside. Your little guy may have never been taught about pottying outside while he was small so he thinks it is the natural thing to do.  I was noticing that you had said that even after going outside and pooping he still pooped in the house. How many times a day does he p**p?  There might even be something wrong with him where he is not able to hold it or control it. If he is pooping more times than he eats or is pooping all the time you might want to ask your vet to check him out.

  3. I had a German Shepherd that had a hard time potty training as well.  I used crate training and she finally got the point.  Try this link:

  4. The number one thing to fix this problem is consistency. Take your dog outside and give him 5 minutes to do his duty. If he doesn't do it within the time allotted then bring him inside and put him in his cage. Wait 10 minutes and then bring him back outside. Eventually he will connect that if he goes pee and p**p outside he doesn't have to go in the cage and he will get a treat. If you don't have a cage then block him off in one part of the house. I had the same problem with my 6 month old puppy and now she is completely potty trained. Good luck!

  5. U have to be persistent & it will learn quickly.

Don't rub its nose in its ****,how would like it if ur mum had done that to u when u were being toilet trained ???

If u are really pee'd with it, put disposable nappies on it when its inside.

  6. I saw one of these the other day,its called an umbilical lead. You attach one end to the puppy and one to yourself and go about your normal routine. The idea is to keep the pup close to you and when they show an indication they are about to *go* you take them outside. The trainer then said to the pup*go pee/p**p* and when the pup did it got a verbal treat like, good boy.It only took a couple days and the pup was trained. At night he will have to be crated.

Rather than buy this lead you could just use a regular leash. The umbilical lead was about 5ft. long.

  7. Don't punish him when he does wrong just clear it up and ignore him.  It will take time and a lot of patience but take him outside regularly and stay with him until he does it.  Get him used to a command like 'be clean' - use the command as he is going.  Praise him like crazy when he is doing it and immediately afterwards.  Use treats after he is done well but straightaway.  You will get there.

  8. Never rub his nose in it, a puppy can not understand that he needs to go or relate outside to his needing to go, he will just go when he needs to, the best thing is to keep takign him out and praise him when he goes

  9. when you were 10 months what did you do ?

that's how you need to look at it treat him as you would like to be treated when you were of 10 months take all advice especially the nice guy whom said do not put the dogs face in his waste .

I wish you luck in the future and have fun with the memories.

    cheers!

  10. Pugs are hard to potty train. Never rub their nose in it and look into crate training. it really works well.
