  1. You could try contacting residence services at the University of Alberta. They have a few rooms/dorms reserved for anyone just looking to spend a night or two.

Of course you aren't guaranteed a vacancy, and because it is in a school after all, you can't go all out and party, and it won't be as nice as ordinary motels.

  2. You're not likely going to find anything that cheap in Edmonton, unless it's a fleabag motel.  You may be able to find a bed and breakfast within that price range.  You'll find a link to Edmonton hotel/motel listings below.  I've stayed at the EconoLodge Southwest and paid only $75/night and it wasn't a bad place to stay.

  3. I pulled up all the most reasonable places you could get accommodations in Edmonton. Forget cheapie motels - they aren't in your price range and even if they were you definitely wouldn't want to stay in them.

    Here are places to try:

    Go Backpackers Hostel Edmonton

    10815 Jasper Avenue               780 423-4146

Go Backpackers Hostel is a large travellers hostel in Edmonton. Located in downtown Edmonton and beside an LRT station, accommodations range from private rooms with kitchenette to eight bed dorms.

    Hostelling International - Edmonton Hostel

    10647 - 81 Ave. Edmonton             780 988-6836

A great urban hostel for travellers, located where the fun is in Edmonton's historic Old Strathcona neighbourhood, just off Whyte Avenue, the coolest strip for shopping, pubbing and clubbing. Also near the University of Alberta and across the river from the downtown core. Everything you need is within walking distance with West Edmonton Mall just a quick bus ride away. Private rooms available.

Lister Centre Dormitory - University of Alberta

    1-047 Lister Centre ( 116st-87ave) Edmonton           780 492-6057

Located centrally, only five minutes from the river valley and close to shopping and activities, The University of Alberta Lister Centre offers single stay and group accommodation in Summer from May to August. Lister Centre hosts 1000 Dorm-style rooms available for single and double accommodation. Choose from shared or private bath options.

Residence Saint-Jean - University of Alberta

    8406-91 street Edmonton          780 492-6057

Situated in a French cultural district, the residence at Campus Saint-Jean offers budget accommodations for conferences and groups. They have 100 private dorm-style rooms with private baths. Linen and towel service is included. Features include common lounge areas or spacious balconies each floor. Close to shopping and walking trails.

    St Joseph's College

    11325 - 89 Avenue Edmonton               780 492-7681 Ext: 235

Located at the University of Alberta campus with quick access to downtown, West Edmonton Mall, Whyte Avenue, parks and trails, museums and other attractions. Offering accommodations and the option of meals at a reasonable price. Single rooms are available from the beginning of May to the end of August. Reservations strongly recommended.

Hopefully these will give you some reasonably priced alternatives to a sleazy, unsafe motel.

    Good Luck
