It being the start of the season, and the most optimistic time for all involved with football, I was just wondering what views people had on Arsenal actually winning anything this season? Being an Arsenal fan this is about as upbeat as it gets from now until May! The keeping of Fabregas is a big boost though, and Arsene Wenger has also added a defender, (Laurent Koscielny) and has spoken about adding more before the transfer window closes. Rumours of a 'keeper coming too would finally resolve the big problem area for Arsenal since, well, since David Seaman called it a day. I feel Arsenal have a better chance than say, the last three years, but what do you think on the matter, I'm curious to see what fellow Arsenal fans, and other supporters, think.

If I'm being realistic about it all I'd havta say that United and Chelsea are still obviously considered favourites, but the champions league will distract Spurs and Man City will have a dressing room full of egos. If Arsenal are even sitting third and within say four points of first come christmas do you think they could push on from there to mount a realistic challenge? Again I think a centre back and new 'keeper are crucial to this scenario. I must say though, I've been impressed with Koscielny so far.

As an Arsenal fan, I think signing a goalkeeper is an absolute must.
We've had Almunia for some time now, and it's clear to all that he's not good enough. He's a good No.2 but not a good No.1. Then Fabianski is hopeless.

Another defender is key as well, and if we did have to sign someone else it would be a defensive midfielder to cover for Song when he's not there and to play alongside him as well.

Now that Cesc has stayed, bringing a keeper and a defender is enough, because our attack is excellent. If we can rely on a strong defence, then silverware will be a reality this year.

  3. I'm not an Arsenal fan, but I think that if they manage to bring in a decent goalkeeper and another central-defender as back-up then they could be this year's dark horses.

The Gunners have many talented players and, like you say, keeping Fabregas was crucial.
