  1. art doesn't change humanity. humanity changes art. i mean draing a pile of dung can be an art. it might be weird 2 generations later but it was still an art. how about this. Majority of people determines what is art and what is not. but to an artist, his work is always an art even if the majority disagree.

  2. I think it depends... the opening ceremonies of the Beijing Olympics was a type of art and I thought they were indcredly amazing and very inspirational.  Anyone who saw them will never forget them.

  3. Ars longa, vita brevis... Life is short, art forever.

Nevertheless... Yes, I do believe art can change humanity, but such change comes at a slow pace and doesn't always have the intended result.

How is the question to ask. Are is the ethereal manifestation of human existence. Are we not moved by the paintings of Picasso and Van Gogh? Does the Cisteine Chapel not inspire? And has it not done so for centuries? To walk in the ruins of Athens, does the archetexture of the time not inspire the archetexture of today? Loot at our modern music, and see how many times it has been used to send a message for change (We Are the World; Farm-Aid Concerts; etc)

Art is emotive, and we are an emotional species. Movement, and with it change, is expected by our art, and is many times its purpose; but as I said, the desired movement is not always realized.

    Cheers!

  4. yes cause it tells our pass and brings ideas for the future.

  5. Yes, art is one of the only things that lasts.

  6. Yes :)

  7. Yes, from a Euro-centric point of view, just look at the Renaissance.

  8. If people stop to pay attention to the beauty of art, I believe it can and will change humanity.  In fact, I believe it already has in some ways.
