Under new coach, Tito Vilanova, the Catalans have managed to stay unbeaten both in the domestic league and Europe since the start of the season.
The retired Spanish footballer, Tito Vilanova, has not had a great career as a professional footballer.
During his time as a central midfielder in various Spanish teams, he only managed to play 26 La Liga games. His lack of success as a player meant that he had to switch careers and that is when he decided to try his luck in management.
After few years with Barcelona B as an assistant manager, he was appointed to become the assistant manager of former coach, Pep Guardiola, who won 14 titles in four years for http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Barcelona-c38604 during his time as a coach.
When Guardiola left Barcelona in the summer of 2012, it was his assistant manager, Tito Vilanova, who took charge of the club.
Now that he became the coach of a team that won virtually everything for the past few years, it was no surprise the expectations were very high and everyone was keeping a close eye on what Tito would do and which direction he will take as a coach.
While some believed nothing much will change after Guardiola’s reign, the sceptics on the other side of the spectrum also believed Tito will not be able to outshine Barcelona’s former glamorous coach and the club will go through a period of slow transition.
For Tito, the many years he spent in the inner circles of this club meant that he knew and was very familiar with the dynamics and ways of doing things in this club.
In his first press conference as the newly appointed coach of Barca, he reassured everyone that he is not going to change things for the sake of change.
"I am not going to change things just for the sake of it," he reiterated.
Although Tito is in fact different from Guardiola in many aspects, regardless, some of the senior players in the team knew that nothing was going to change and they have also agreed with the analysis of things by their new boss.
"I don't think there will be big variations in the way that we do things. Every person, every coach, is different but we're expecting something similar," http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Andrés-Iniesta-c5863 said.
As it turned out, Tito Vilanova stayed true to his words and as expected he didn’t make drastic changes to the overall philosophy the former coach left behind.
He has jumped aboard and decided to steer the ship steadily while making minor changes and adjustments whenever and wherever needed. So far, that is how things have been progressing at Camp Nou. The transition is going very smooth for the Catalans.
It couldn’t have been a better start for Barca under their new coach. They have started their new La Liga season in a sensational form.
Although they have been marred by injury crises in defense, which forced the coach to opt for makeshift backline, the Catalans have not lost a single game since the season started.
They have won seven out of their opening eight games in the Primera division, which makes them the current leaders of the table, thanks to a superior goal difference.
They are also still unbeaten in the Champions League, having won three out of three in their group.
With an 84.62% win rate for Barcelona since his appointment as a coach, Tito Vilanova could not have asked for a better start to his managerial career and it is yet to be seen if he will continue in this direction till the end of the season.
