Can Brock Lesnar overthrow Alistair Overeem, or will he go down for good? – UFC Special
Most anticipated heavyweight bout in recent memories of Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) will take place at UFC 141 between Brock Lesnar and Alistair Overeem on December 30, 2011 in Las Vegas, Nevada. The fight has been under
discussion ever since UFC booked the bout a couple of months ago.
Although it is a non-title fight, the image and credibility of both fighters will certainly be hanging in the balance. American MMA fighter, Brock Lesnar, who was a successful wrestler in the World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE),
entered the world of MMA in June 2007. His hegemony was soon created among the UFC fighters, who could not fathom the massive size and sheer strength with which Lesnar fought.
Lesnar made his mark as an able fighter early in his MMA career. He made a winning debut by beating Min-Soo Kim but lost to Frank Mir in his second fight in February 2008. This was also his UFC debut, where Mir made him submit
with his cruel kneebar. In his third fight at the UFC, Lesnar was given the UFC Heavyweight Championship match against Randy Couture. The veteran UFC fighter, Couture, was unsuccessful in keeping Lesnar down as the former WWE wrestler won his debut title in
the second round.
Many critics have the view that Lesnar and Overeem are going to give a slugfest of a match as both have the right amount of aggression within them. According to analysts, the huge egos of both the fighters will be altered once
anyone of them faces a defeat. Their attitudes have overshadowed every other fighter in the UFC, as both gained considerable amount of respect from the UFC community because of their fighting style. Lesnar has defended his title twice before losing it to Cain
Velasquez at UFC 121 in October 2010. This was Lesnar’s last fight before taking a break from the UFC ring.
Critics and fans alike have their doubts for Lesnar because he hasn’t stepped inside the fighting cage since late 2010. He will be coming for a fight after a hiatus of fourteen months, which make Lesnar somewhat vulnerable against
Overeem. On the other hand, Overeem is undefeated since November 2007. For the past forty-nine months Overeem has kept his supremacy in the world of MMA and has competed in promotions with the likes of Strikeforce, Dream and Dynamite. He made his MMA debut
in 1999 and after twelve years of fighting, he will make his UFC debut at UFC 141. This is something which all fans will like to see, as Overeem will aim at putting Lesnar down but Lesnar will never desire to loose on his turf, the UFC.
With both fighters striving to win the fight, hostility will be at its highest when they will step inside the UFC cage for the first time. In my opinion Lesnar will have some difficulty beating Overeem. Lesnar maybe the former
UFC Heavyweight Champion and might win to keep his chances for another title shot alive but Overeem will also be looking to take down Lesnar and make an impact on his debut.
One thing is for sure that with both fighters, standing at a height of more than 6ft and weighing more than 250 lbs (pounds), their fight will not be a pleasant sight to watch. In the recent few weeks both fighters have given their
comments and they are looking forward for a brawl. Overeem even went to the distance of saying he will break Lesnar’s bones and Lesnar too has expressed his thirst for win. Only time will tell if Lesnar can reclaim his position as the best UFC fighter or the
newcomer, Overeem, knocks down Lesnar in Las Vegas.
