  1. I would most certainly agree with Wacky on this point, having followed his advice for many months, with the best success I have had for quite sometime.

Do not keep Budgies with any other bird if you want to breed Budgies keep them on their own.

  2. Contrary to what some are saying I would not advise you to keep Budgies with any other bird, more so when it comes to breeding season.

Budgies are very territorial and "Very" aggressive even with their own kind in breeding season.

    So the first answer is"NO".

You can however keep Zebra Finches and any other Finches with(Bengalese,Silver bills Manakins, etc.) Cockatiels,in the aviary your size 1 pair of Cockatiels, with up-to 8 pairs of Finches, are more than enough.

But "No" Budgies not even with Cockatiels, I bred birds for over 50,yrs.and learnt by my initial mistakes.

  3. Of chorse they can but if any of the finches lay eggs they will be quite aggressive! So make sure there's a place for them to nest away from the other birds. And cockatiels can be there as well.

  4. Hi,

Firstly the answer to can you keep zebra finches in the aviary with budgies is yes, you would be able to as the finches are fast enough to escape from the budgies.

As for putting cockatiels in there as well i would not recommend it as cockatiels and budgies are the most friendly birds for each other. I though have cockatiels, budgies and finches together in a 16ft by 6ft by 6ft aviary and there is still little fights and arguments between them so really you aviary is too small.

As for ratios with budgies then you need 1 male to 1 female, as if the numbers aren't even then the hens will fight over the males and visa versa. The finches though don't really care how many at the moment i have three males and 2 females but they all get along fine.

  5. i don't think so finchs are soft bills whilst budgies are hook bills and can snap a finchs neck and if they are lucky they just get there feathers pulled and sore patches

plus look at the sizes of them

don't mix them just stick to one species
