Can Carlos Boozer guide Chicago Bulls to the next level? NBA Report
Under the wings of the defensive mentor Tom Thibodeau and in the company of sharp shooter Derrick Rose, the Chicago Bulls enjoyed their best season since the Michael Jordan Championship era. The signing of Thibodeau after parting
ways with Vinny Del Negro and the substantial improvement in Derrick’s shooting percentage were the major reasons for Chicago Bulls’ tremendous success last season.
The Bulls not only finished with the top seed in the Eastern Conference by amassing 62 victories, the team also raced away into the Eastern Conference Finals for the first time since more than a decade.
There was one more enrolment in the Chicago Bulls squad last season that strengthened the team on the court. The Bulls acquired Utah Jazz’s veteran power forward Carlos Boozer which made the line-up very competitive and deep. Boozer’s
considerable experience and game-play helped Bulls to outperform the Eastern Conference foes throughout the regular season.
However, after crashing down against the spirited Miami Heat in the Conference Finals, a couple of weakness became apparent that hampered the Chicago Bulls from finishing with it all. One of those included Carlos’ play-off performance.
Thibodeau coached the Bulls to perfection by inculcating a defensive mentality and went on to win the coach of The Year award. While, the point guard Rose kept the momentum escalating in the play-offs commandingly after becoming
the youngest player ever to clinch the most Valuable Player (MVP) award in the regular season.
The third most dependable component on the roster for Bulls was Carolos Boozer. Even though the 29-year-old player had an impressive regular season, however his scoring average dropped down from 17.5 points to 12.6 points per game
in the play-offs.
By making a noteworthy improvement in the next season, Carlos can take the Chicago Bulls to the next level. In order to do that, Boozer first needs to improve his defensive game which is now the powerful aspect of the team after
Thibodeau took the charge. Being a better defender, will not only allow him to make less fouls, but Boozer might connect his shots more often as well. Confidence is a very strange thing after all.
Secondly, Boozer needs to fire on all cylinders in the play-offs as he did for Utah Jazz in the seasons before the last season. Carlos was the best man for Utah and he carried the responsibility quite effectively by scoring at
an average of more than 19 points per game in all of the four post-season trips in Jazz’s uniform.
In Chicago Bulls, Carlos might not be the best man for the team, however he needs to team up with Rose to carry the momentum at the big platform in order to make the Bulls title favourites. On top of that, Boozer needs to stay
hundred percent fit as a healthy Carlos Boozer is worth 3-4 more points and 2-3 more rebounds in each game.
If he manages to find his groove in the windy city and gets his fitness levels up, there is no doubt that the Bulls can surpass the likes of Miami Heat and the big boys of the East, the Boston Celtics in the next season, whenever
it starts.
