Can Chicago Bulls dominate the Eastern Conference next season? NBA Feature
Before the beginning of the 2010-2011 season, the Chicago Bulls sorted out all the pieces of the puzzle and put together all the ingredients to ensure their emergence as an elite in the Eastern Conference for the first time since
the Michael Jordan era.
In the process, the Bulls parted ways with Vinny Del Negro and appointed 53 year old Tom Thibodeau as the new head coach, who brought in a defensively mentality in the team. Secondly, the franchise signed the former Utah Jazz superstar
Carlos Boozer to fire up the offensive system of the team.
On top of that, Chicago Bulls sharp-shooter Derrick Rose exhausted the whole off-season improving his shots from the field and beyond the arc. Apart from the major transformation, the whole team kept themselves busy working out
and forming strategies for the upcoming season.
The ultimate result of all the hard work turned out to be an effective one as the Chicago Bulls jumped from a 41-win season to a 62-win season and finished as the top seeds in the Eastern Conference. The 22-year-old Rose went on
to win the Most Valuable Player (MVP) award and became the youngest player ever to clinch the honour. The defensive mentor Tom was eventually named as the ‘coach of the year’ after transforming the franchise into a legitimate contender in his first year with
the Bulls.
The success continued for Chicago in the play-offs as well and they advanced to the Conference Finals for the first time since the retirement of the hall of famer Jordan.
Even after winning the game-1 of the Conference Finals comprehensively, the Bulls crashed down against the mighty Miami Heat in the next four games and their magnificent journey finally came to an end. One of the major reasons
of Bulls’ choked against Heat was the lack of experience on the roster.
Now the question is that whether the Chicago Bulls can build on last season’s success in the coming years.
Bulls, who were considered as the best team of the league in the 90’s, lost the charisma after the retirement of the legendary player Michael. Since then, the franchise struggled to find a talent who can bring the team back on
the track.
With the epic emergence of the young point guard Rose in the last season, who guided the team on the top almost singlehandedly, it seems like Chicago has finally found their man to embark on the road of championships once again.
However it might take some time.
During the 2010-2011 regular season, Derrick averaged 25 points, 7.7 assists and 4.1 rebounds per game and performed even better in the play-offs.
Rose is an outstanding player and the extent of his abilities and strength is not a secret anymore. However, he lacks a substantial experience on his resume. The most important thing that Chicago Bulls needs to do is to stimulate
the supporting cast around their superstar to alleviate some pressure from Derrick which will enable him to play his natural game.
No one can take the place of Jordan; however Rose definitely has the potential to bring back those successful memories back to the windy city. The man who they need to stick and support on both the ends is Derrick Rose. If they
manage to add some talent around him in the free agency or in a trade, they will certainly be the odds on favourite to slip past the likes of Miami Heat and Boston Celtics.
