  1. Some breeds can some are too heavy to fly. They usually have their wings clipped to prevent them from flying.

  2. They can but not very far, they really just flaf their wings to help them run faster.

The longerst chicken flight ever recorded was 13 seconds.

  3. In their wild state chickens could fly up into the trees to roost at night, coming down during the day to hunt for food.  Unfortunately, modern day chickens have been bred as food or egg machines, so that they are now much larger than their ancestors.  They still have the wings, but these are now pretty much redundant because of their size.

I have ex-battery chickens and they do use their wings to help propel themselves forwards and to flap onto the top of their chicken coop.

  4. They can fly but they are not very good at it. They need to be really stressed to even bother trying, and at best they can only manage a few yards.

  5. they can glide low for a very short time, sort of like flutter

  6. Kind of- they'll go for about 9 feet about 2 feet off the ground

  7. Yes they can fly, but not very far.

  8. most of them can, but on a short distance only.

  9. Chickens are very bad fliers.  I have two pet hens and the most they ever do is to stand on their tiptoes and flap their wings, but you will never see them take off and fly.

  10. Yes, they can, but no great distance.

I once found a hen in a tree with her two chicks. She had managed to get up as high as 6ft.

    xx

  11. No they can! Penguins also are birds but they can't fly ether!

Domestic chickens are not capable of long distance flight, although lighter birds are generally capable of flying for short distances, such as over fences or into trees (where they would naturally roost). Chickens will sometimes fly to explore their surroundings, but usually do so only to flee perceived danger. Because of the risk of escape, chickens raised in open-air pens often have one of their wings clipped by the breeder—the tips of the longest feathers on one of the wings are cut, resulting in unbalanced flight which the bird cannot sustain for more than a few meters, and it is thus discouraged from flying at all.[citation needed]

  12. They carry on running about when you chop their heads of, try it. I this is too extreme for you you can easily hypnotise them, get a Friend to gently hold its head to the ground the slowly run your finger along the ground away from its beak in a straight line, after about 5 metres the chicken will be in a trance and will stay motionless for some time when your friend removes their hands.

  13. The wild jungle fowl they are descended from can certainly fly,not very strongly, but well enough to get high into trees to escape ground predators or to roost safely at night.

Domestic chickens are far heavier than their wild ancestors as they have been selectively bred for food. Most cannot fly more than a metre or 2 just above the ground and even that is hard work for them.

  14. Yes, but not very far at all.

  15. a little bit, they dont get far off the ground.

Otherwise, no they cannot fly on their own. (not very far anyway)

  18. Check by kicking it up the ***

  19. Yes, just a short distance!  Actuallly, they want to fly high but poor thing is not designed for it!

  20. Chickens cant fly but they can hover above the floor with there wings and move a little bit so if u call that flying then i guess they can lol

  21. YES BUT NOT THAT MUCH

  22. yes they can fly but not as high in the sky

  23. Yes they can, but only short distances.

  24. short distances.
