Can Chlorine Eat Away Brass?

a brass fitting which the chlorine exits made a gash about half a pinky nail length which made water go every where, just wondering if i can eat it away so i can change it.

  1. Chlorine will corode brass ,but im just wondering why you would want to do a repair that way?


  2. It will eat away the brass especially if there were stress corrosion cracks, some of which occur during the manufacturing process.  

    Corrosion will occur at relatively low stress levels in such cases and  the residual stress in a component would then be enough to trigger crack growth and failure.
