Can Christians who turn away from the faith be "possessed" by evil spirits??

Matthew 12:43-45 says "When an evil spirit comes out of a man, it goes through arid places seeking rest and does not find it. Then it says, 'I will return to the house I left.' When it arrives, it finds the house unoccupied, swept clean and put in order. Then it goes and takes with it seven other spirits more wicked than itself, and they go in and live there. And the final condition of that man is worse than the first. That is how it will be with this wicked generation."

Is it possible to be a beliver in Jesus Christ, turn away from His teachings, and have an evil spirit come back and basically "possess" you??

My dad was a believer growing up but turned his back on God around age 25. He's 51 now & suffers from bi-polar and is experiencing symptom of early onset of dementia. He thinks he's living in a house full of evil spirits. He doesn't want to make a decision to repent & turn back to God... but I know God is the only one who can truly heal him.

Are there any Christians out there who also suffer from bi-polar disorder?

I guess to sum it up, I'm asking 2 questions: 1) Can Christian who turn away from the faith become controlled by evil spirits? and 2) Are there any Christians that are strong in their faith in God but also suffer from mental illness (such as bi-polar or schizophrenia)?

  1. yes

    1st by magic

2nd by an envious person that envies u

3rd if a demon wants to hurt u

    religious people don't get possessed

but lack of faith is a reason to be possessed

the only way to get red of them is by reading the holy book n drinking n showering with holy water

it differs from a situation to another

the sooner u try to heal ur self the better

    this possession causes

    lack of luck

    not able to get married

    nightmares of scorpions or snakes

or some1 tries to kill u in the dream

or u see ur self falling down from a higher place

    or flying

that's all in ur dreams or nightmares

in real life u might here voices or see weird stuff

or forgetting where u put stuff

or anything that cant be explained like sudden diseases that cant have answers

  2. 1) A born-again christian, whether they fall from their faith or not, can become "oppressed" by a demon, but not "possessed."

2)Yes, there are christians who suffer from bipolar, alzheimers, there was even a preacher who had epilepsy.  Being a christian does not protect you from the physical dieases, and just because someone has one of these diseases does not make him demon posessed.

  3. 1.  No, once you accept Jesus Christ as your Savior, you cannot be possessed by evil.  You can turn your back and that displeases God.

The Devil then just irritates you and tries to make you do displeasing things.

    2.  I do know a strong Christian woman who has Bi-polar.  She has her moments and God can help her when we pray for her.  In fact she needs help now.  I will pray for your Dad to rededicate his life to God.  He will not be taken by the evil spirits because he accepted Jesus as his personal savior.

  4. You are categorising mental illness as being due to demonic possession. You are entirely incorrect and worryingly so. If you do not accept what your doctors are telling you, about the fact he is ill, then you are probably incapable of taking care of him.

  5. That can happen to anyone , you don't need to be a christian or turn your back on God to be possessed by demons .

  6. Sickness comes to us all, believer and none a like. Your father needs to confess his sin for his souls sake, not his body or mind, Pray to God for mercy so he can be ready to stand before God cleansed in the Blood of Jesus.

    I will pray too.

  7. if you mean  evil spirits as in crack yes...

  8. The adversary is trying to bring everyone he can to misery and shame, and the misery and shame will be worse for those who had knowledge

and fell away. There is no doubt about that. Those who err because they have not been taught are not judged the same way as those who err because they choose to ignore what they've been taught.

However that does not mean that a person can't escape what is called

the bonds of iniquity. I'm sure that you have read the story in the New Testament about the man who contained a "legion" of evil spirits that

were cast out of him by Jesus?

Your dad is not crazy. It is possible for demons to inhabit a person and warp their views and thoughts while not physically controlling their actions.

I'm not saying that bi-polar disorder and schizophrenia aren't real because they are,and I'm sure that some Christians do suffer from them, but what I am saying is that with your dad it's most likely both.

He is probably suffering from bi-polar disorder and being plagued by

    evil spirits.

If I were you I would encourage your dad to seek psychological counseling and/or medication as well as repentance. Advise him

to abstain from cigarettes, drugs, alcohol, violent or offensive

music, movies, or television, and to abstain from using foul language.

Indulging in these things make it easy for evil spirits to play with your mind. Tell him to just do the best that he can to abstain from them. Any effort is better than no effort. I would also recommend fasting. Pick one day out of the week/month and skip two meals on that day.

It will probably be tough to do these things at first. The adversary does not like losing control of someone and will do everything he can to frustrate them.

Tell him to just keep going.

  9. I think it's yes with both questions.  Look at Romans 11:20.  Read the whole chapter for context and then consider what it is that you are being told to fear in verse 20.  A loss of faith is a dire situation for anyone.  For the second question, Anyone can lose their mind.  If you ate aluminum you would go crazy regardless of how good of a person you were.  (Unless a miracle was involved)
