  1. Dear Big Joe: NO! Do NOT do this. It taints the bloodline and their immune systems are weak and they can get deformities, such as crooked feet and bald spots. In addition, their lifespan is shortened by up to half. This is a major mistake that some people make, and the breeding community has been admonished to stop this practise completely. I've had twelve of them, and I'm down to five now from giving them as gifts and one in-breeder dying. This is a big no-no. Do not let your cockatiels inbreed. See my 360 you can see Dora.

  2. they can mate with anyone or anything, sister, mother, human toys. keep them apart or you can expect deformed babies.

  3. They can however unless you know your lines well they should not be allowed to.  Breeding full siblings is generally considered a big no no regardless.  Breeding cousins, aunt/nephew, uncle/niece, parent/child, grandparent/grandchild may be considered acceptable if you know your lines well and have certain goals in mind, and is known as line breeding.  Most birds from a certain line are going to at least be distant relatives because breeding birds from a set gene pool allows a breeder of show birds to set a certain type.  Breeding unrelated birds introduces unknown genetics and one breeding can undo years of work setting characteristics in a line, and may introduce undesirable characteristics.  Again however line breeding should only be attempted if you know your lines very well, as it can cause its own problems if undesirable genetics exist in the line,  including genetic based health problems.  You have to know what exists in your lines so you or your risk breeding 2 birds that carry an undesirable recessive characteristic, producing offspring with that characteristic   An example of one of the undesirable traits that was introduced through a bad line breeding program was the baldspot that the majority of Luntio tiels had for so many years.  It took good breeders years of careful breeding to produce Luntios without the baldspot.  So just as outcrossing can undo years of work, bad line breeding can cause problems it takes years to work out.

  4. they can. most animals don't really think twice about who they are reproducing with, they are just concerned with carrying on the species

  5. birds, and any other animals, don't care what the relationship is when they mate, line breeding can be used to strengthen certain traits but it can also lead to deformities.

  6. Hello.

If you let the birds mate with relatives ( they call in_breed ) They may have  babies , however, the babies will die young or have a lot of sickness in them, so all the breeders never take chances to do so ...wasting the time , effort , money and it is not right . TM.
