Is there anything useful I can do with the dvd/cds that come free with newspapers etc? I usually end up putting them in the bin.

  1. anything can be recycled take them to any place that recycles all the other stuff

  2. They can be used as bird scarers in your vegetable garden.  A lot of birds don't like anything shiny that flaps around.

For the past few years my parents have had several DVDs on pieces of string above some of the vegetables - the wind catches them, making them spin and sparkle - and it has very effectively kept the birds off.

  3. DVDs and CDs contain a thin layer of aluminium, so they can't be recycled as plastic. There's a company called Polymer Reprocessors who recycle them though:

Just send them the discs and they do the rest (they accept small quantities of discs too - I sent a stack of magazine freebies off to them a while ago).

  4. Yeah i think dvds or cds can be recycled if erase the stuff on them and burn it. Well thats what ive seen a guy do

  5. i think so because you can recycle plastic right. And cd's are plastic.
