I'd like to know if regular DVD players can play Blu-Ray discs without my having to purchase a separate Blu-Ray player.

  1. nope

Blu-Ray discs are totally different (even physically) from DVD's. A regular player wont cut it.

time to go waste some more hard-earned money on stuff we dont really need, right?

  2. No, your DVD player cannot play Bluray discs.  DVDs use a red laser, and Blurays use a blue/violet laser.  The different wavelength of light can read more data on the disc.

However, if you buy a Bluray player (or PS3, since that's the cheapest one on the market), the BD player can play all of your DVDs, even upscale them.  Then it can also play the high definition movies on Bluray

  3. Simple answer....No.  They use different laser technology.  Blu-ray uses a blue laser and it takes a blu-ray player to read those discs.

  4. I dont think so....

You need a Bluy Ray player or a PS3  to play Blue ray disc
