Can Darren Clarke shine at the Omega European Masters?
The Omega European Masters is going to take the European Tour to Switzerland. This event debuted in the year 1923 then it was called the Swiss Open.
It was given the name European Masters in the year 1983. In 1992, Swiss Open was removed from the title of the event and it was given the name ‘Canon European Masters’.
The tournament came up with its last name, the Omega European Masters in the year 2001 and still the same name is being used. It is one of the most prestigious events in the world of golf.
The best in the world of golf gather every year for this auspicious event to fight for the championship.
Last year the Omega European Masters was won by the Dane professional golfer, Thomas Bjørn. In the four-day tournament, he scored a magnificent twenty-under par and was 4 strokes clear from the runner up of the event, Martin Kaymer of Germany.
This year it is going to be a tough fight for the players at the tournament as once again when the best in the world of golf will collide. The tournament will start from the 30th of August and it will end on the 2nd September. The venue
for this event is the Crans-Sur-Sierre Golf Club.
Only a little time is left for the tournament and the players are getting ready, leaving nothing on chance. This year, the tournament is going to be attended by one of the best players. The list of players also includes Greg Norman, John Daly and former
Open Champion Paul Lawrie.
Another player who is going to be under the spot light in the Omega European Masters is the former British Open Champion, Darren Clarke.
Recently, there has been a great amount of debate about the player’s form. He is thought to be too old to play.
Darren Clarke is one of the biggest names in the world of golf. He has proved himself time and again. Over the years, he has been very consistent about his game and has taken on every challenge that came his way. Now a new challenge is arising for the Northern
Irish professional golfer.
According to the analysts, he is too old to play. He had his time, his game was on the peek and he was unbeatable. Now, he has lost it all as every rise has a fall. Clarke does not have many good years remaining in his career.
Clarke turned professional in the year 1990 and till now, the 43-year-old has managed to bag 22 professional wins. Out of these 22 wins, 3 came from the PGA Tour, 14 from the European Tour, 3 from Japan Tour, 1 from Sunshine Tour and 1 from Challenge Tour.
In his career, he has only managed one major title and this was in the year 2011 when he won the British Championship Open. He also has top ten-finishes in the rest of the majors as well.
Darren Clarke has achieved so much over the years. He is an icon for the next generation. That being said, this does not mean his career is over.
He is still playing well and has the capability of bagging a few more titles before he retires. He surely is a top contender for the Omega European Masters and is a player everyone is looking forward to watch at the event.
