Can David Ferrer win the Australian Open 2012? – Tennis Special
Spanish number two, David Ferrer, is a world class act. No one can deny his ability, strength and willpower to demolish his opponent with consistent performance throughout the match. He might not have a rocket pace serve to be
famous or a single handed backhand return but he definitely has the ability to prolong the rally and extract unforced errors from his opponent. He never looks to dominate the proceedings but his patience allows him to stand up to his task.
Opponents of Ferrer usually get tired of his ability to stay there and stick to his task. Everyone likes to dominate but Spaniard prefers to wait for his opponents to make mistakes. He is 29-years-old and still rocking; he is always
seen amongst the quarterfinalists of elite tournaments and deserves the praise for his hard work. I have seen no one except Ferrer who can exploit the patience level of his opponent and force him to play reckless shots.
He is ranked 5th in the world but his non-stop improvement will definitely raise his ranking to world number four. Andy Murray might be standing firm at that number four spot but for me, Ferrer has all the talents in
the world that can easily rank him above the Briton number one, Murray. It will be an interesting battle this year between Andy Murray and David Ferrer for that number four spot.
Bright start to this season for Ferrer earned him the triumph in Auckland. He won the season opener tournament, Heineken Open, defeating the Belgian Olivier Rochus in straight sets 6-3, 6-4. He is going extremely good in the Australian
Open as well and definitely looks to uphold the expectations of Spanish fans from him. World number two, Rafael Nadal, might be shadowing his performances but he is definitely an asset to his nation; clearly showed his worth in the Davis Cup final tie last
year against the Argentine tennis ace, Juan Martin Del Potro. He fought extremely hard till the end and earned Spain a crucial triumph that registered a thumping victory over Argentina.
He placed a stunning show at Mubadala World Tennis Championship last year to outclass his fellow compatriot, Rafael Nadal, in straight sets. You can always predict anything from him. He is a fighter and battles till the end of
the match; until the last point is won Ferrer has not lost it yet; he can comeback from any stage any point of the match.
With 12 titles to his name in his emphatic eleven-year professional career, Ferrer looks set to win the Australian Open Grand Slam title in 2012. No one can write off his chances, he might be an underdog in front of Roger Federer
and Novak Djokovic but if he gets going, he definitely has a chance. He loves playing at all courts in Melbourne and it might be an occasion where he fulfils his career long dream of winning a Grand Slam in Australia. It is tough but he is definitely in with
a chance.
