Can Detroit Tigers bounce back before the All Star Break? - MLB News
Detroit Tigers have a lot to worry about these days. Jim Leyland and company took their second straight loss at the hands of Boston Red Sox on Tuesday, May 29 at Fenway Park in Boston, Massachusetts in a three games series, which damaged their record to
23-26.
Throughout the season, the Tigers have struggled to win games on regular basis. After they swept Minnesota Twins 3-0 in their previous series, it seemed the Tigers had finally caught a break but their winning streak ended at just three games.
For the fans who want Jim Leyland fired, they must be careful of what they wish for. Leyland is the guy who led Tigers to the American League Central Division title last season. If there is someone who can turn things around for Detroit Tigers, it is the
skipper Leyland.
General Manager Dave Dombrowski will be regretting some of the decisions he made during the off-season. Prince Fielder, who was signed for the fourth largest contract in history of Major League Baseball, has proved to be the greatest disappointment for the
GM this season. With the All Star break coming up, the Tigers have very little time to regroup themselves.
Of course, they can still change the course of their destiny. Tigers will have plenty of opportunities to put things back on the right track but it will be extremely important for them to come up with the winning formula.
While the big hitters have failed to impress the critics, Tigers’ ace Justin Verlander has given some impressive performances this season. But winner of 2011 AL Most Valuable Player Award, Verlander will need an effective supportive role from the offence
to match his stats from the last season.
"I felt like they made a really good adjustment against me. I felt like I was actually pitching decent and they were hitting some decent pitches," Verlander said. "Obviously, this is a good lineup and they were more than capable of doing that. I can't say
I pitched bad, but it was a battle because of the way that they were putting together at-bats against me."
The Tigers will be hoping to secure a comfortable win against Boston in the finale to regain some sort of confidence and it will be interesting to see if they can catch current league leaders Cleveland Indians before the All Star Break.
