Can E. Coli o157:H7 or Salmonella survive after dessication?

I wan to know if E. Coli o157:H7 or Salmonella can survive on a dry surface.

  1. sure can, alot of bacteria will form endospores with hard membranes that will enable them to last through periods that are not conducive to growth like a dry counter top. chances are bacteria are still there waiting for an opportunity to start reproducing. So simply drying out a cutting board will not sanitize it, you need chemicals, heat or UV to do this.  


  2. Yes. E. coli and Salmonella do not form spores, but they do not die easily. They can survive on a dry surface for some time, especially when the surface is dirty or the humidity of the air is high.
