The long-term dilemma that is facing Barcelona is whether someone can fill the void which will be left by Xavi Hernandez once he hangs up his boots.
Xavi has been undoubtedly the single most important player for the Catalans since the past few years. He is the total master in the midfield. Without him, it is like the conductor is missing from the orchestra.
His pinpoint precision passes and out-of-the-box thinking is usually what enables Barcelona to create something out of nothing. He is basically the focal point of http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Barcelona-c38604’s possession-domination and ball-controlling techniques.
The 33-year-old is now nearing his final years and soon he will hang his boots. Recurring knee problems haven’t helped the maestro too.
Since Xavi was on duty for http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Spain-c3011 in the 2014 world cup qualifiers, he was put on the bench when he came back for Barcelona so that he could take some rest. That gave a rare chance to Cesc Fabregas who appeared for Barcelona in
the central midfield as a play maker.
Soon, it was evident that Fabregas was enjoying his role. He showed what he could do in that area. His performance as a play maker was exceptional. He provided three assists with long through balls that all ended up at the back
of the net. Certainly, the player was happy with his performance of the night and later on concurred.
“I’ve always been confident in my ability and I’ve been working really hard,” he said.
“Since the start of the season I’ve been very comfortable with the system. I’ve always played in this position since childhood – it suits my game.”
He couldn’t be more right. Fabregas has played in this position since he was young. When he joined the English club, Arsenal, he became their main man in the centre of midfield. He was also entrusted with the responsibility of
being the captain and playmaker of the Gunners.
He took that responsibility with grace. He was considered to be one of the best young players for that position. He became the pacesetter for Arsenal. Basically, the man who pulls all strings on the pitch.
Fabregas is one of the few versatile players. Apart from holding his coveted position as a playmaker, the 25-year-old can also play on the wings as well as a second striker.
Recently, he got the reputation of being the “False nine” for Barcelona in most of their games.
He has proven his versatility with Barcelona since the day he joined. What is more amazing about this young player is the fact that he has become a prolific goal scorer for Barcelona as well.
Since his arrival in the summer of 2011, the former http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Arsenal-c38429 captain has scored 11 goals in 36 league appearances. That is a great ratio for a player of his calibre. He doesn’t even start most of the time for the club.
It may be unfair to compare the two players, Xavi Hernandez and Cesc Fabregas, as they are two different players with slightly different styles of play.
However, it is fair to say Cesc can lead a team. He has proven that before with Arsenal. When he is entrusted with a big responsibility he always stands up for the occasion and performs his duties impeccably.
Of course he is still learning and growing in Barcelona. His record as a play maker and captain shows that he is a man who can fill the vacuum left by big players.
