Can Federer win this year's US Open?

Question

Its still too early but the fact that the Australian Open was won by Djokovic and the French and Wimbledon to Nadal is quite alarming for many Federer fans....The upcoming ATP events in North America would give us a preview as to what is left in the Federer armory....but personally speaking, i want him to win this year's last grand slam...

What do you think, guys?

Can he win? Yes. But so can many others.

I think he has as good a chance of winning as Nadal or Djokovic.

I think so.  His being crushed at the French Open showed that he was still a bit off his game, but the closeness of the Wimbledon Final showed that he was regaining it.  So, he should really be back to his old self by the time the U.S. Open rolls around, especially since he'll probably not want to end the year without winning a single Grand Slam.

Well...Federer is still making it to the semifinals and finals.

So....yeah I think he'll try and hang on to his last title seeing as how he couldn't threepeat at Australia or win his 6th at Wimbledon he'll go for his 5th at the U.S. Open and my bet is he'll win.

US OPEN IS LONG WAY TO GO, IF FEDERER CAN PLAY WELL IN COMING US SERIES & OLYMPIC , SURE HE WILL WIN THE US OPEN AND END AS WORLD NO 1.

of course!!..i see great potential in him. he has a great momentum after losing the wimbledon. i met him and he says that he will not lose again in any grandslam or vice versa. well he train me playing tennis since i was 7. of course i know him

YES, Borgy, he CAN win the US Open!

I personally would love for Federer to win the US Open.  It would be even better if he could win it in another epic 5-set thriller vs. Nadal!

I want Federer to win the US Open so that he can give us some hope that he will be around for a while.  I personally cannot imagine watching tennis with as much enthusiasm if Federer were to retire prematurely.

I want Federer to win the US Open so that he can keep up his end of the Federer-Nadal rivalry!  We are better able to appreciate their individual talents when we see it in the context of the other player's greatness!  I hope they will play many more matches against each other!

Yes, Federer can win it!  I will be rooting for him!  Hopefully Nadal also makes it to the finals.  And hopefully Djokovic doesn't ruin the party.  :)

Yes.  Of course.  There are many questions about if his rein is ending or if he'll win another slam.  He's made it to 5 years worth of semi-finals!  and most of them finals.  Do you know how hard that is?  First round 1, then round 2, then round 3, then round 4, quarters, then semis, finally finals.  That's a lot of matches.

Nadal, people say he's only good on clay and nothing else.  Well, his style of heavy topspin is good on clay, but he got into 2 Wimbledon finals.  Just because he doesn't win, doesn't mean that wasn't good!

It's just that, as more players come, there's more competition.  Nadal is getting better, Djokovic is getting better.  They're both only 22 and 20 respectively.  Federer is 26, he still has a couple years before the retirement age of 30.

I think he will win the U.S. Open.  Isn't is odd that in men's tennis, there is usually only the mention of three names?  You know, there is still davydenko, ferrer, roddick, nalbanian and blake!!  Don't count them out.

I know Federer will go down as one of the best tennis players in history.

Absolutely Federer can win the US Open! Look at the way Fed played at Wimbledon, even though he didn't win in the end, he definitely proved to everyone that he is still King and he's not surrendering his crown at all. Now he'll have to contend with guys like Djokovic and maybe Rafa could make a run if he's good and healthy, but I could say Roddick could sneak and heat up, but I think these years of overrelying on his serve is beating up his shoulder, so I don't think he'll be around for long. I think the US Open series will determine whose going to make a good run. I want him to win grandslam number 13 also, but if it happens it happens, if it doesn't I still love the Fed Express. Fed is just having one of those bad years, It was bound to happen. Tt's happened to all of the greatest players of the game before him, but he's still here and he's still fighting, that's really all we can ask for. GO FED!
