Can Fernando Alonso claim his third champion title? – Formula 1
Ferrari driver Fernando Alonso has been considered as the strongest contender in 2012 Formula 1 World Championship and he surely deserves to be called as one as he has performed exceptionally well in the season so far.
The Scarlet team had its one of the most struggling pre-season testing programmes this year as they failed to develop a competent car as compared to other contenders. Moreover, their technical director, Pat Fry even ruled out the possibility of a podium finish in the season opener and expressed that they might face difficulties in the first few races of the season.
Nevertheless, Alonso has incredibly limited the damage for his team and has performed commendably well in the season until now.
Furthermore, he has been admired by many former F1 drivers which mainly include the three-time world champion, Niki Lauda who said that the 31-year-old is going to win the title this year.
Besides, Lauda said that the two-time world champion has delivered flawless performances until now and has proved his potential by attaining competitive results even with an incompetent car.
“He is making all the right moves,” the Austrian told the official F1 website. “He is fast and he is getting the car over the finish line. He is aggressive when needed. He is Mr Right, right now.”
In addition, the Austrian said that Alonso can only lose this year’s championship title if he stops to race which he is not going to do anyway. He also said that the Ferrari driver is certainly in a position to claim his third championship title this year.
“The big question is whether Alonso will stop racing. (laughs) If so, then the others might get into a position where they can catch up. But why should he stop? [Alonso] will score the most points,” he added. “He will be champion if he carries on like he has done up until now. Why should he change?”
It will be very exciting to see that how Alonso performs in the remainder of the season and whether he will be able to win the championship battle or not.
