Can Force India become the leading midfield team in the 2011 Formula 1 season?
Force India are one of those teams who have made their mark in the sport in a very short amount of time. The team became a part of Formula 1 in 2008 which was just 3 years ago and now, they are one of the top mid-running teams of the sport as they are scoring
points quite actively.
In 2010, the team improved its performance massively as they scored 65 points and secured the 7th place in the constructors’ standings with the help of Adrian Sutil and Vitantonio Liuzzi.
This year, they are looking even more competitive than they were last year as Paul di Resta and Adrian Sutil are doing a pretty good job but this is probably not their best yet. Force India are currently in 8th place with 10 points from seven
races in the 2011 Formula 1 season but since they are improving quite noticeably, it seems that they might improve their statistics later on in the season.
Even though Force India have scored just a single point finish since the past 5 races of the ongoing season, their pace is improving. The India-based team is also hoping of some upgrades pretty soon as well.
The top running teams of the 2011 Formula 1 season are clearly Red Bull Racing Team, McLaren and Ferrari as Mercedes GP and even Lotus Renault GP are struggling to compete alongside their pace which makes them a mid-running team as well.
Even though they are not as competitive as the top running teams, Mercedes and Renault are quite fast and every now and then, they score some pretty good results as well alongside their usual point finishes.
Mercedes GP and Lotus Renault GP are currently in 5th and 4th places in the constructors’ standings respectively with 52 and 60 points which clearly mean that they are much faster than Force India or any other mid running team. Their
closest competitors are Sauber who are currently in 6th place in the standings with 27 points.
Besides that, even during the qualifying sessions, Mercedes GP and Lotus Renault GP make it to the Q3 session on a regular basis which is between the 10 fastest drivers of the session.
Conclusively, this means that Force India can only become the best mid-running team of the sport only if they come up with some massive upgrades and improve their performance which clearly is not as good as the more established teams of the sport.
However, one has to admit that they are performing much better than Williams, who are a championship winning team of the sport.
According to the team’s current situation, it will not be possible for Force India to defeat Lotus Renault GP or Mercedes GP this year but they are surely building a very consistent and stable team which will deliver much better performances in the future.
