Question:

Can Hamsters Eat Grass???

I let my hamster go out side (with me sitting on the ground right beside her watching her every move) and she has ate grass. I wanted to know if this is safe for a hamster. A lot of grass she doesn't eat she smells it and either walks away to find another piece or eats it. I think that it would be safe because hamsters lived in the wild so they have probally ate grass before. If you know anything about hamsters and grass PLEASE anser this. Also can hamsters loose toenails???

  2. sure i think you can even buy them pet grass from petstores.Or is it only for cats.Man i'm dumb!My mom had tons of hamsers back at the Philippines and she didn't need to trim their nails and they turned out fine.

  3. yep, i let my little guy out on a nice cool day and he loves to walk around in the grass and snak on it. if you do take ur  little girl out, make sure you put her under a chair or something like that so the bigger birds don't see her and, u know the rest. i usually stand over top of my guy. i also let him sit in my lap and enjoy the fresh air and breeze.

  4. Yes, hamsters can eat grass, however, a lot of wet foods (such as grass) can give the hamster diarrhea...so try to only let your hamster eat grass occasionally and keep it on a dry food diet.

  5. Yes, it's perfectly fine for her to eat grass..I take my dearies outside to eat grass almost everyday. =]]

And yes, they can lose toenails. One of my deceased hamster lost her toenail, but she could still move. If your hamster ever loses a toenail, put some corn starch on it and hold it there. That will stop the bleeding, and they will be okay afterwards.

  6. Your right. Their natural instincts tell them to eat grass. It's normal. Plus, you hamster seems to know the diff between good and bad grass.

    It's ok!

EDIT: Of course they can loose toenails. They'll prob grow back. Ya have to keep their nails short anyway!

  7. It is fine it is natural instinct and they can eat grass, and hay! It is normal, as long if it doesnt have weed killer or anything bad on it she will be fine, and yes hamsters can loose toenails!
