Can Harrington put up a tough challenge at the Travelers Championship?
Padraig Harrington did not have the very best of starts to the season. His scores were not up to the mark, and he hardly registered a top-ten or even a top-twenty five finish.
Then came the Masters and suddenly the Irish found his stride. He shot 4-under par and finished T8 in the standings.
In the next two events, he again faded and could not manage to make the cut even. He had a good play at the St. Jude Classic. He finished T13, with a score of 4 under- par, taking home with him $98, 933.
After his majors’ success, he was very optimistic about more achievements.
He claimed that if he could manage to find his old form back again, the form with which he won the PGA Championship and back to back British Open titles, then, things would definitely turn around for him.
Harrington believes that his controlled display at the Augusta National can bring more laurels for him and his team.
After the Masters ended, this is what he had to say, “I was very comfortable on the golf course this week, which bodes well for future Masters, and I feel like I found a very nice place mentally. There is a good thing in me going forward. I feel I am on
an upswing, an upturn in my game. So yeah, I am looking forward to going forward”.
At the Masters, Harrington played with ease and in a calm manner. It felt as if he knew what he was doing and he was relaxed throughout the tournament.
Next up was the US Open. With his performances very iffy, nobody thought that he would be finishing in the top-ten.
However, not only did he manage to do well, he finished in the top-five, to be precise at T4.
At the Olympic Club, he shot 3-over par, which is not a bad result, considering the likes of Mickelson falling way behind. Plus, the golf course was quite tough, so it was a good result over all.
Right after the US Open, there is the Travelers Championship at the TPC River Highlands. Many big names are featuring in this event and the competition will be tough. Also, the prize money is handsome too.
Players like Webb Simpson, Hunter Mahan, and Matt Kuchar are also participating and young guns, like Patrick Cantlay, are making their debuts as a pro.
It would not be a mere walk in the park for Padraig Harrington, although he has been playing some extremely commendable golf. He has been on the rise for the last few months but that does not guarantee success.
Everybody out there on the golf course is a professional and aims for a victory.
If Padraig Harrington wants to continue to do well and if he is serious about putting up a tough challenge at the Travelers Championship, he must focus on the basics.
He should not try to invent or improvise because that could be a risky thing. If it works for him, he could be a hero but if does not, then he will be in big trouble.
Along with basics, maintaining his calm and composure is very important. If he focuses on these few hardcore things, surely, he can stand strong at the Travelers Championship.
