Initial set up costs would be very high i guess but wouldn't it in the long term get cheaper and cheaper and in addition be able to use useless land and make it productive.

  1. One of the most preventative costs for scaling up hydroponics is labor, and the level of skilled labor required. It can be done, but expense prevents it.

  2. yes  but not for staple foods such as wheat, rice and potato's only luxury foods such as lettuces and strawberries and tomato.

Have you ever seen a commercial salad farm especially in span they have acres of greenhouse growing hydroponically and so are the susses growers of UK strawberries moving over to this!

  3. You can grow lots hydroponicallly but costs are a lot. It doesn't need land but l;ots of power fotliting and water. Hence a lot of higher return crops tomatos and marjuana. The resources to grow other don't justify the return

  4. It could but there would be a problem with the supply of carbon dioxide, the so-called poison on which all life is based.

CO2 levels can drop very fast in the closed environment of hydroponics unless you supply it from canisters, propane burners, cut a deal with a power station or just "open the windows" which i guess is doable.
