Can Hydrogen, non fossil fuel energy, stand alone to meet future energy needs? Why or why not?

  1. Not really because hydrogen is a manufactured fuel, and it takes at least as much energy from other sources to make it by splitting water molecules as you get when you burn it later.  It advantage though is that its portable and burns clean.


  2. Keeping in mind that hydrogen is not an energy source but only an energy carrier, so you are talking about renewable energy sources.

    Yes. Solar electric power all by itself has the potential to generate more power that currently generated by all other power sources combined.

    If you think about it you will see that it will have to satisfy our needs, because we will run out of fossil fuel within no more than 300 years at the most optimistic. Given the damage that Global Warming is doing and will do we would be smart to get off fossil fuel a lot sooner than that.
