Question:

Can I Edit HD With a Slower Low-End Computer?

Ok, I just bought a new Sony HDR-SR10 and got a program with it to transfer my movies to computer.

This camera records in High Definition 1920x1080i using the AVCHD format.

And here's my problem, I have 2 laptops with lower-end technology. One with 250mb-ram, and the other with 500+ mb-ram. Now the program that came with needs a computer with a minimum of 500+ mb-ram, and recommended 1gb-ram and+ .

Does anyone know any other program that can import it, and transfer to another format in HD?

That isn't my main concern, which is finding a suitable editing software. I don't care if it edits in HD or SD, as long as it can put clips together and some of the most basic editing techniques.

As long as it isn't over 500mb ram minimum, remember that it needs to read AVCHD format.

Please help!

Thanks!

PS: I know that I need a better computer, but I'm planning on waiting till christmas to buy a desktop with higher-end technology.

But for the moment I still want to be able to do something atleast.

  1. You could download a trial of Sony's Vegas Movie Studio, though I think it'll struggle - editing AVCHD needs a lot of memory and processing power.
