I live with my parents but they don't want to help me pay for school at all. If I talked to someone at FAFSA and explained this to them, would that be an option to file as an independant?

  1. Yes, you can! If you claim ...you independent you need to provide a prove that you pay tax for past year or years  etc.

    Good Luck :)

  2. They don't care about your situation, trust me a lot of my friends have tried this. If you aren't 25, don't have children, a ward of the state, have both parents deceased or aren't married then you can't file as an independent. They don't care about your personal issues. You still have to provide yorur parent's income, even if you aren't living with them. There are no ways around it.

You can have a job, file taxes and have your own apartment, it doesn't matter. They add that to your parents income.

  3. I HAD THIS PROBLEM A WHILE BACK AND I THINK THAT I ACTUALLY CALLED TH EFASFA HELP LINE AND I WAS TOLD THAT EVEN IF I DONT LIVE AT HOME AND AM UNDER THE AGE OF 25 OR SOMETHING THAT I STILL HAVE TO PUT THIER INCOME INFO WHICH INTURN WOULD GIVE THE ESTIMATED FAMILY CONTRIBUTION AMOUNT. FROM THERE THATS WHERE THEY DETERMINE IF YOU NEED HELP OR NOT.

THE ONLY WAY THAT YOU DONT NEED TO PUT THEIR INFO IS IF YOUR A WARD OF THE SATE, HAVE A CHILD OR YOU ARE ACHILD OF A VET.

TRY AND CALL THE FASFA HELP NUMBER AND SEE WHAT HAPPENS THO.

    NEVER HURTS TO TRY.

    GOOD LUCK!
