Can I Get Sidewalks?

I live a relatively small town- nothing's more than five or ten miles away from my house. There's a movie theater, restaraunts, little to no crime (aside from standerd high school drugs), and nice weather most of the year round.

Only there are NO SIDEWALKS! Basically, if you want to go somewhere that's outside your neighborhood, you need to drive. Which is not only bad for the environment, but very frusterating as one doesn't always want to rely on older people with cars.

The majority of my peers and I think that having sidewalks would definately improve our 'quality of life'. My mother even agreed that had we sidewalks, she would let me go places.

SO HOW CAN I GET SIDEWALKS?

  1. Get involved with your town government.  Perhaps there can be a program developed that will allow for sidewalks to be installed for a reasonable cost.

  2. Get together with your neighbors and petition city hall.  If you have an Engineering deptartment, talk to them.  They usually deal with streets, traffic lights, sidewalks, etc.

If all else fails, petition the town government to approve the installaton of sidewalks and offer to pay for them yourself.
