Can I Split the Directv signal to 2 inputs on DVR?

I don't want to have to run another full cable, can I split the signal just before the DVR to get the 2 inputs into the DVR so I can take advantage of the record one show, watch one at the same time?

  1. Not by any NORMAL means, you can't. If you just get a splitter what'll happen is you will get one semi-decent signal from one cable and the other will be so weak that your receiver won't even get it.

    If you want to split the signal at the TV properly, you would have to shell out a ton of cash for what's called a Multi Switch (you have one at your dish, too). It receives the signal, amplifies it, then sends it along a certain number of lines (depending on the number of outlets it has). Theoretically you could have an infinate number of these strung together and still have the same signal, from what I understand.
